If you aren't doing it all ready, keep and scan ALL your receipts. For CA you can take off the higher standard deductions or sales tax you have paid all year. I keep 'em and scan 'em then toss 'em. This also lets you make sure you have any other deductions.
This year, since we made so much LESS we should be able to take it off. Hey anything you can get back from uncle sam is good. Lord knows he ain't helping the middle class, we gotta help ourselves.
I use the NeatReceipts for Mac, it is easy peasy, at reduces all the receipts I have to keep thru the year.
