There can be an Upside to Downsizing

Recently they news was reporting the crime was continuing to decline and they were confused because they were sure with the current economy crime would rise.

I have a theory on that, if a parent has been downsized or lost their job, as long as they are getting unemployement and able to keep their home and feed their family, I think this maybe a blessing in disguise.

These parents need to take advantage of the upside (yes it might be small but it is there) to suddenly have more time to be there for their children, get involved in school/sports activities, volunteer.  I know it is hard but again, nothing of value comes easy.

And since a majority crimes are committed by teenagers and young adults, suddenly, if you parent(s) are home, there is now more supervision and less chance to get in trouble.

I believe also that the way we "spend" our free time has changed, instead of "going places", we go visit friends and family and reconnect with our loved ones.  The support network is expanded and children see it isn't who has what, but who has who that is more important.

I think when the economy starts to recover, there is going to be a significant portion of parents who say, I have managed to get by without working, do I really want to go back,or continue to stay home with my family.  I think there will be quite a few who chose to stay home if they can afford it.
