1. Do what the rest of the State and Country are doing - LAYOFFS - you can't tell me there isn't any redundancy in our state, so start with a 5% layoff.
2. Do what a lot of companies are doing - REDUCE salaries of those employees left by 10%.
3. Get the GREAT PARK going. There are hundred's if not thousands of jobs waiting to be created on that on project alone.
4. REDUCE the state income tax. You Raise taxes we REDUCE our spending, you REDUCE taxes we INCREASE our spending, see how that works? Here is an easy example to follow:
- You can have 10 sales of $100@ = $1000 taxed at 8.25% = $82.50
- OR
- You can have 20 sales of $100@ = $2000 taxed at 5.25% = $105.00
5. I don't care what side of the Immigration debate you are on, we all know it happens, we also know we give thousands/millions of dollars in aid to Mexico. Soo, while we can't stop immigration we can BILL MEXICO for the costs incurred. That is right, every time an uninsured ILLEGAL Immigrant gets medical attention - BILL MEXICO, every time an Illegal Immigrant gets aid from CA send the BILL to MEXICO - now you say, they just won't pay it, DEDUCT THE COSTS FROM THE AID WE SEND THEM!!
6. For first time offenders, petty offenses, don't let them off, give them House Arrest. Let them pay for their own food and boarding, and charge them for the service. Get them off the streets without putting a strain on our budget. We should clear out all the minimum security prisions with these kinds of misdemeanors and non-violent criminals.
7. Disability is for those disabled, not acoholics or druggies. That is right people that can be classified as disability and they get benefits??? I am sorry, but the is just unacceptable, you can't legislate stupidity and you shouldn't reward it either. Sound Harsh too bad, we can't afford to take care of those who CHOOSE yes CHOOSE not to help themselves, ask all the AA members YOU can STOP!
8. Invest in renewable resouces now. There is a huge desert out there just waiting for solar panels and windmills to harness all that energy. Goverment is the biggest employer, lets actually do something useful for once while land is cheap and so is labor.
These are just a few items off the top of my head I am sure I can think of more and I am sure so can others.

Let me begin by saying that I am personally not on disability, but as someone familiar with the disability system - flawed though it may be - your comments are really kind of insulting. First, if someone IS getting disability SOLELY for drug or alcohol addiction, then that person IS. GETTING. HELP. The disability is ONLY to help them while they are in recovery, which can take years for some addicts.
But the goverment simply does not say "Oh you are on drugs that makes you unable to work, here's a check" like you are implying. Have you EVER SEEN the process to get disability?!?! It's not as easy as you seem to think. We're talking forms - stacks and stacks of forms, LOTS of doctor and psychiatric evaluations, on and not to mention MANDATORY regular attendance in drug or alchohol rehab programs. They simply do not "let them continue the habit with a weekly check".
Second of all, what irks me a bit more I think, is that for a lot of people, maybe not all - true - but for quite a few, excessive drinking or drug addiction is simply a symptom of an underlying problem, and the person is trying to "self medicate" with alcohol or drugs. These people DO have addictions, but they ALSO need psychiatric help to get them through the underlying reasons for their addictions, whether it's childhood abuse, trauma, mental illness (especially bipolar disorder, and personality disorders!!), deaths in the family, or many other reasons. These people need to see a psychiatrist for REAL medication and counseling...which they often cannot get or afford WITHOUT disability assistance. Take that away, and the person has no support system, what are they supposed to do???
How utterly judgemental to say to quit giving disability benefits to drug addicts and alcoholics.
I'm sure there are a few alcoholics that don't care, but they can't milk the system for long, because if they don't follow the treatment they won't get disability. And if for any reason in the future they no longer need assistance (and are not seeing doctor's etc), the government WILL cancel their disability.
But as I said, the majority ARE seeking treatment, ARE being HELPED by the government to get that treatment in a way that they couldn't get without it, and I think it's pretty silly to generalize so much.
Dear Anonymous,
I do know exactly how hard it is to get on disability, it took my aunt over 2 years and tons of doctors visits and paperwork to get on it, and she really needs it.
I agree that there are those who are using Drugs and Drink to cover/mask other problems, and I think they should continue to get HELP not disability.
I don't mind the government giving a helping hand, I do mind them giving those who don't want to help themselves a handout.
